Silent Hill: Shattered Memories [Dec. 17th, 2009|01:03 am]

Before I say anything about this game, I want to make something clear.

Silent Hill 1, for the PS1, is one of my all-time favorite video games. All-time. Without hesitation, I can say that it's one of my top five all-time favorites. It's not really something I can explain, but something about it really warped my opinion of what games were really capable of in terms of storytelling and atmosphere. It wasn't exactly phenomenal, but at the time, it totally blew me away.

So when I heard they were going to have a western developer, the same guys who did Silent Hill: Origins, remake the first game, I was more than a little skeptical. Maybe even downright offended. After the slap in the face that was Silent Hill: Homecoming and Konami coming out to say that their new big survival horror franchise was going to be SAW, I decided that Silent Hill as a franchise was dead.

But a part of me felt responsible to at least give this new game a try. I learned a few things about it that quirked my interest, which I'll get into later, and one gift card later I was playing.

I was wrong. This game is fantastic.

Braid coming to PS3, Nov 12th [Nov. 4th, 2009|11:18 am]

Some of you might recall how much I harp on about Braid, the Xbox 360 and PC exclusive Johnathan Blow indie game released last year. Well, for those of you who are PS3 exclusive gamers, you now have no excuse to play Braid.

Braid, one of the most visually beautiful, mind-bending, time-twisting platformers I've ever played, is on it's way to the PSN.

According to Kotaku (referencing the official Braid blog), the PS3 version is set to be released on the PSN Store on November 12th 2009, priced at $14.99, which is the same price as it is on 360 and PC.

Please, please give it a try. If nothing else, should a demo be released along with the game, try the demo and decide from there.

SUPER Street Fighter 4 announced [Sep. 30th, 2009|01:44 am]

What, you thought Capcom would come out with a Street Fighter numbered sequel and not have second editions and remakes?

SUPER Street Fighter 4 is announced to be released next spring. However, it'll only be released to consoles, not arcades. Unlike the Championship Edition version released as a patch for the consoles, the new edition of the game will come packaged as a new game, with no announced plans to release the SUPER edition as a DLC pack.

So far, three new characters have been revealed playable, with two of them filling up the missing roster additions to Super Street Fighter 2, Dee Jay and T.Hawk. There is also a newcomer, Juri, a korean fighter who seems a little King Of Fighters-ey.

I just wanted to to take this chance to let you all know that Braid, one of my personal all-time favorite games and the highest ranked indie game on Metacritic and Gamerankings.com, is selling at the ridiculous low, low price of $5 right now on Steam.

Don't miss this chance to play one of the most artistically beautiful games I've ever played.

Here's a trailer:

Difficulty: Some of the stages are very hard. Some are so hard that I concentrate on just passing them, nevermind my score. Some, of course, are very easy. Since it's made for tweakers, expect to spend a lot of time trying to improve your scores.

Trophies: A lot of the lower trophies are easy to get, but the rest... lots of time and work.

Other Things: I look forward to the English version, where I'll be able to enjoy the collection more.

Overall: I think it's a worthy game to succeed the line of Katamari games. Considering that it's a game you invest in (think of how long it took you to build your second game data), it's too early to give it a rating value. Besides, my thumbs and hand are still recovering...
